Hunter Helps Haiti update
Dear Students, Faculty and Parents of HCHS,
As you all know, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday, January 12th, devastating the capital city of Port-au-Prince, killing thousands of people and affecting more than three million individuals. A number of students mobilized by the end of that week, and since then the response has been wonderful. In just four days of collecting individual student donations, we’ve raised over $1,137.00. We had special assistance from three HCHS organizations who donated their bake-sale proceeds to the cause: CSAW, Science Club and, an impromptu sale of PTA 11th grade potluck leftovers organized by Ms. Reifer. Special thanks for the generosity of those organizations!
We’ve decided to send the money we raise to Partners in Health. Partners in Health is a non-profit organization that has been working to bring modern medical care to Haiti (and several other impoverished nations) for more than 20 years. We are confident that they will use our donations as efficiently as possible to aid the people of Haiti. Additionally, we are working on more long-term plans to send material donations (food, clothing, shoes, etc.) to Haiti as soon as that becomes possible.
Students will continue collecting donations at a table outside the foyer during 4th, activities, and 5th period throughout this week, and students can also drop off donations in Ms. Siegmann’s room in the main
office (240). We strongly urge you to contribute to this significant cause, whether by donating individually or through our school. If you would like to donate individually to this wonderful organization, you can find more information at: http://www.pih.org/youcando/donate.html
Thank you!
Sara Blazevic, Ms. Siegmann and the many students in the ad hoc Hunter
Helps Haiti group
