       <p>Dear Parents of HCHS 9th-12th Grade Students:

<p>
Today in homeroom, students received their ID Cards, school pictures (if they had not been picked up already) and a form called STUDENT AUDIO/VISUAL CONSENT AND RELEASE FORM.
</p>
<p>
This form (attached <a href="http://www.hchs.hunter.cuny.edu/images/uploads/AV_release_form_FB_LU.pdf">here in pdf format</a> in case you need another copy) requires both your signature and that of your child.
<br />
Please return it to the HS Main Office by next Friday, October 3rd.
</p>
<p>
There are several projects this year that require this release form.&nbsp; Any questions may be addressed to Lindy Uehling, Director of Admissions.

       <p>Four major US papers--Atlanta Constitution (1868-1939), Boston Globe (1872-1924), Chicago Tribue (1849-1986), NYTimes (1851-2004)--are available through Proquest. To access, from the HCHS home page, mouse over &#8220;library&#8221; and then &#8220;edatabases&#8221; and then choose (the slightly misleadingly named) link: &#8220;NYT Historical&#8221;. This database should be available for students to use from home with their username and password, however problems with access have been reported. Let me know what people&#8217;s experiences are and I&#8217;ll work with the technology department to see if they can be fixed.

If you are an 8th or 9th grade student and you want to take the Specialized High School Admissions Test, stop by Mr. Natelli’s office (Room 436) by October 6th and sign up.&nbsp; There will be no way to sit for the test if you are not signed up by October 6th.&nbsp; The test will be given at Stuyvesant High School on October 25th, 26th or November 8th depending on your grade.&nbsp; In addition, a high school application will have to be filled out and they will be available after October 10th.&nbsp; If you have any questions you can contact Mr. Natelli at 212-860-1452.

The summer games in Beijing may have just finished, but the United States can claim another gold medal!. The sixth International Linguistics Olympiad ended today in Slanchev Bryag, Bulgaria, and U.S. high school students captured 11 out of 33 awards, including gold medals in individual and team events. This was only the second time the U.S. has ever competed in the event. Their achievement brings a new focus on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computational_linguistics">computational linguistics</a>

We are looking forward to seeing you soon!&nbsp; You should have received the summer mailing by now, but below is the information about Orientation and the first day of classes once again. <b>Classes begin for all students on Thursday, September 4, 2008.</b>
</p>

Please note, students must submit the signed Emergency Card to receive a class schedule.&nbsp; For returning students, please also note that individual programs will not be distributed unless all of the following items are returned:

•       Signed emergency cards

•       Overdue Textbooks &amp; Hunter library books/fees for lost books
<br />
•       Senior Dues (for seniors only)

<b>GRADE 7:</b>
</p>
<p>
Parents are invited to accompany 7th grade students to school on Wednesday, September 3rd at 8:30 am.&nbsp; There will be an orientation session for parents and students together, then separate meetings for students and for parents.&nbsp; Sessions will end at approximately 10:30 am.
