Parent-Teacher Conferences information

{summary}

November 20 2009 : Please click here for a PDF list of rooms for parent teacher conferences.

Dear Parents,

We have reached the end of the first quarter of academic work at HCHS!

I would like to provide you with some essential information regarding your child’s report card and the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences at the school.

As you may know, we have begun using an excellent database system called “PowerSchool,” which will eventually allow us to email your child’s report card to you.  Unfortunately, technical requirements of the program mean that we must customize it to do so, and we have been unable to complete that process.  Because we had planned for a quick turnaround of report cards, we will be unable to get teachers’ grades recorded and mailed in time for the Parent-Teacher conferences.  This means that although we prefer not to distribute the report cards in school, we will need to do so for this 1st marking period.

Our priority is that you see your child’s progress on his or her report card prior to the conference days on November 23rd and 24th, and that you have sufficient time to reserve appointments with those teachers you need to see.

For this reason, here is our procedure for this 1st marking period only:

1) Attached to the bottom of this message, you will find the Parent-Teacher/Counselor Conference Form.  We are sending it to you now so that your child can bring it around to teachers you would like to see beginning Monday, November 16th.  It is also available on our website, under the “Parent Zone.”

2) Your child will receive his or her report card towards the end of the day on Thursday, November 19th.  Additional Parent-Teacher/Counselor Forms will be available in Room 240, in case you have trouble downloading and printing this one.

3) Parent-Teacher/Counselor Conferences will take place according to the following schedule:
Monday, November 23rd,  1:00-3:00 A-L
Monday, November 23rd,  5:00-7:00 (All)
Tuesday, November 24th,  1:00-3:00 (M-Z)

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at school on the 23rd or 24th!

Regards,

Dr. Eileen Coppola

DON’T FORGET TO DOWNLOAD THE FILE!!  IT CONTAINS AN INFORMATIONAL LETTER, A SIGN-UP SHEET, AND A LIST OF ROOM NUMBERS FOR EACH TEACHER.

EVENTS AT HUNTER COLLEGE OPEN TO HCHS STUDENTS

Shock and Awe: The Troubling Legacy of the Futurist Cult of War
Panel Discussion at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College
November 11th from 4-8pm
On the occasion of Performa 09, which this year marks the 100th anniversary of the launch of Futurism, the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College, the Hunter College Department of Art, and Performa present “Shock and Awe: The Troubling Legacy of the Futurist Cult of War,” an interdisciplinary symposium organized by Emily Braun, Distinguished Professor, Hunter College. This symposium addresses the uneasy, if powerful, alliance of art and politics. Experts from across the humanities and social sciences ask the questions: how and why was modernism used to legitimize and celebrate modern warfare, especially dominance from the air. This symposium is a must for those interested in the use and aesthetics and visual representation in the shaping of public opinion.
