The mission of the Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is to inspire children and families to learn about themselves and our culturally diverse world through a unique environment of interactive exhibitions and programs. From its humble beginnings in a neighborhood storefront in 1973, CMOM has grown to a 38,000 square-foot 501(c)3 learning facility with outreach programs at 49 sites throughout New York City, and has become a destination for visitors from around the world.
[edit] About this Community Service Opportunity
The well-known Children’s Museum of Manhattan, located on the upper west side of Manhattan offers high school students the opportunity to immerse themselves in museum operations and to gain experience and knowledge working with museum staff.
The museum offers two types of internships. Summer internships of four weeks or longer require a commitment of two full days a week, and are recommended for 9th and 10th graders. High school juniors and seniors may wish to consider the intensive four-month, school time internships offered each fall. Both internship opportunities provide opportunities to gain skills, experience and responsibility in developing programs and in a variety of museum operations source.
